Electronic Music Playlist Promotion: What Works and What to Avoid

Marcus Deane · · 7 min read

What works: subgenre-matched curator outreach (tech house to tech house, DnB to DnB), consistent release cadence, and converting playlist listeners into followers within the first 48 hours of a placement. What doesn't: buying streams, mass-emailing 500 curators the same message, or promoting a track that isn't finished.

The tactics to avoid are easy to spot once you know the tell. Any service quoting a fixed number of placements or a guaranteed stream count is selling bot traffic or paying for placements — both breach Spotify's terms and both trigger stream-filtering.

The honest version of promotion is slower and less dramatic: reach the right curators, get real reviews, fix what the reviews tell you to fix, and release again.
